Honda Cars India partners with Juana Technologies to bring, “India Innovate – Wheels to Fly” an international STEM based competition to India
January 10, 2020 New Delhi
- ● Aimed at fostering creative thinking among school children
- ● Participation from 5000 students spread across 100 schools from 25 cities
New Delhi, 10 January 2020: In its endeavor to nurture young minds, Honda Cars India has
partnered with Juana Technologies to launch “India Innovate – Wheels to Fly”, India chapter of
an esteemed international STEM (Science, technology, Engineering & Mathematics)
competition “Race to the line” powered by The Learning Partnership. The globally recognized
competition and its supporting curriculum are designed to equip students with skills, resources
& an opportunity to learn theoretical concepts through experiential learning. This fun-win-learn
initiative in India is country’s first STEM based Model Rocket Car Making and Racing
competition. The competition will see participation of 5,000 students from over 100 schools
across 25 cities. During the course of the competition, children will get to learn complex and
peculiar concepts like aerodynamics, motion, coding and computation, in an interactive and fun
environment.
The Competition consists of 2 programs: Fly to the Line (Air Glider making) – for classes 4th to
5th & Race to The Line (car making) – for classes 6th to 10th, which is spread across 2 qualifying
rounds (school & regional) & 1 National Finale. The students stand a chance to etch theirs &
school’s name in history by attempting to create a new Guinness World Record in the fastest
rocket powered model car category
This STEM competition first started in England in the year 2015 and has travelled through
Wales, Scotland, Hong Kong, U.A.E., China and Vietnam since then. The competition aims at
promoting innovative thinking and inspire students to pursue a career in the STEM fields, i.e.
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics related streams.
Commenting on the collaboration, Mr. Rajesh Goel, SVP & Director, Marketing & Sales, Honda
Cars India Ltd. said, “The India Innovate – Wheels to Fly is a globally acclaimed STEM based
competition which will help us to connect with thousands of students across the country and
encouraging them to adopt problem solving approach. Students will be able to apply concepts
like aerodynamic design which plays a very important role in developing mobility products. We
believe students of today will be creators of tomorrow and it is important to engage with these
young curious minds and power their dreams, for a better tomorrow”
Mrs. Swati Ganguly, CEO & Co Founder, Juana Technologies
said, “We are thrilled to partner
with Honda Cars in bringing this global competition to India. We are hopeful that with this
integration of industry and academia, students will be inspired to pursue careers in STEM and
come up with innovative solutions to complex challenges in life.”
About the Program:
1. Race to The Line
Race to the Line is the largest team-based STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and
Mathematics) competition that allows students to design, build, test and race rocket model cars
using modern materials and techniques. Teams develop, apply and master their understanding
of the laws of motion, forces, aerodynamics and coding in this challenge that covers all
elements of combined STEM subjects.
The students are divided in two sets of classes - 6th to 8th & 9th & 10th; with each team
consisting of 4 students.
- ● The top two teams of the school from each set proceeds further to represent their school at the Regional Level.
- ● The top 4 performing teams and the team with best popular design progresses to the National finale in Delhi.
2. Fly To The Line
Designed for young minds, the competition encourages students of Class 4th & 5th to use their
imagination, creativity, innovation and concepts of science in designing the glider in a 3-
member team. The gliders designed by the teams are flown and the one which fly the farthest
wins the competition.
Through these activity students get to implement the concepts of aerodynamics in a fun &
exciting way. The competition helps students understand the working of a glider, its constituent
parts, and the best ways to optimise the glider’s turns.
The students are divided in teams consists of 3 students, each.
- ● The top two teams of the school proceed further to represent their school at the Regional / State Level
- ● The top 2 performing teams move to the National Finale in Delhi
This initiative is focused on inculcating logic based learning of concepts through practical
implementation, curiosity & allow the kids to re-imaging the car & glider designs through a new
lens
